What is QiGong?

Qigong is a health and longevity practice originating during shamanic times in China. Once reserved for the emperors, these secrets practices are now available to all of us to help increase vitality, reduce the effects of stress, enhance our immune systems, and feel joyful. It is the self-healing branch of Chinese medicine. 

“Qi” (pronounced chee) means vital life force or energy.
“Gong” means work or cultivation.

There are hundreds of different qigong “forms”, or series of movements. These gentle rhythmic forms integrate physical movement with breath and focused intention. This facilitates the qi moving smoothly through your body, energetically cleaning it and dissolving physical and emotional pain. Qigong forms are done standing, seated on a chair or the floor, and even lying down. There are also qi meditations with minimal outward movement where one’s focused intention moves the qi and creates the balance and harmony within.

When you practice qigong, you learn to quiet your mind and deeply relax your body. You look and listen within. The inner landscape of your body becomes as familiar as what you can outwardly see. It is a way to become aware of your thoughts and emotions and how they manifest in your body. Practicing provides a way to transform any negativity into feelings of well-being, and dis-ease into health and harmony. It is a way to soften and open your heart. In qigong practice, you experience resonance with the bountiful, healing energies of earth and heaven. You experience heart and mind coherence and oneness with the universe. Practicing qigong circulates blood and energy as well as detoxifies the body for increased vitality and health. When one is healthy, the mind, body, emotions, and spirit are in harmony and balance. Qigong practice is a path to this natural state of joy and peacefulness.
